Root Canal Treatment in Thailand

Teeth are mostly secured to your jawbone by one or more tooth roots. Front teeth have one root each, premolars and lower molars have two roots each, and upper molars have three roots each. In the middle of every root are tiny tubes known as root canals. These canals contain material called pulp, which are mostly nerves and blood vessels that keep the tooth alive.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment is required whenever the pulp is infected through severe tooth trauma, a cracked filling, or an untreated tooth cavity. After infection has set in, the best course of action to preserve your natural tooth is endodontics or root canal treatment.

This entails removal of the infected pulp and replacing it with an inert material to avoid the risk of infection. After the treatment, your tooth is effectively "dead" because there are no more blood vessels and nerves connected to it. However, the treatment should help preserve it in the cosmetic sense, such that it shouldn't pose any further problems in the future.

Root Canal Treatment in our Clinic in Thailand

In Khao San Bangkok Dental Clinic, Root Canal Treatment is done by Endodontist in only one visit. The price can vary from 8,000 to 14,000 Baht, depending on the infection and the tooth number.

How Is Root Canal Treatment Done?

At any rate, the procedure includes the following steps:

  • Antibiotics: A course of antibiotics are given to patients prior to the actual root canal treatment to reduce any swelling and existing infection.
  • X-Ray: The length and layout of the roots will then be x-rayed so the dentist would have a good idea of what to do.
  • Drilling and Pulp Removal: On the day of the endodontics treatment, (it may take three hours or more appointments with shorter sessions) your dentist will drill the top of the affected root and then remove the pulp. The canals will then be widened to ensure that filling them will be much easier.
  • Cleaning and Filling: An antiseptic is used to clean the canals before they're filled with an inert substance called gutta percha to avoid the possibility of infection. A temporary filling will be placed until the dentist is sure the infection is gone.
  • Crown Placement: Because the dead tooth is more brittle than a live one, it's usually capped with a crown to reinforce it.
