Crown, Bridges, and Veneers

Crown, bridges, and veneers are three ways you can go about fixing decayed, damaged, or missing teeth. In a nutshell, crowns are rigid caps that protect a compromised tooth and restore it to its ideal anatomic contours and function. Meanwhile, bridges are crowns that bridge an additional tooth over the site of the missing tooth; meanwhile. Finally, veneers are thin porcelain laminates that are bonded onto the tooth surface. At any rate, here is an in-depth look at the three processes.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is both a cosmetic and protective dentistry service because this rigid cap beautifies and protects the tooth. It's typically recommended when it comes to fixing decayed teeth, previous root canal therapy, tooth fracture, and other types of functionally compromised teeth.

It requires two appointments (one for circumferential reduction and placement of a plastic temporary crown, the other for actual placement of the laboratory-fabricated "Procera" crown). It takes about two days to fabricate a permanent crown. Crowns aren't only aesthetically pleasing; they also provide support for your damaged teeth and restoration of their normal function.

What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are mostly used for tooth replacement. It is composed of two crowns that serve as an anchor for an additional tooth or teeth over the site of the missing tooth or teeth. It's best used when it comes to replacing missing or extracted teeth, especially if the adjacent teeth are also compromised and in need of crowns.

This is also a two-appointment procedure. It also uses a mold like with a regular dental crown because the twin crowns will serve as an anchor for the additional tooth. As always, there's a temporary bridged used before the second appointment attaches the final bridge unto your mouth.

What is a Dental Veneer?

Dental veneers are thin porcelain laminates that are bonded on the tooth surface like artificial dentin of sorts. It's one of the most straightforward and surefire ways of cosmetically improving one's smile, and can even double as a way to fix damaged teeth without going the crown route.

It's best used for misaligned or rotated teeth, minor dental fractures, chips, spaces, and discolored or misshapen teeth. This service requires two appointments, requires minimal tooth preparation, and minor reduction of teeth (about half or three-fifths of a millimeter) to make room for the veneer itself.
